This training on Professional Boundaries for Direct Care Staff supporting Individuals with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities teaches staff to set and maintain limits for safe, respectful, and effective support, focusing on clear communication, appropriate physical touch (asking permission!), avoiding dual relationships (gifts, money, personal info), understanding power dynamics, and ensuring client dignity and staff safety.

2/10/26 HCBS Final Rule Update

This update will cover the following:
Provider Compliance Mandates: HCBS providers must comply with specific mandates to be eligible for quality incentive payments in the 2026-2027 fiscal year. Training and guidance cover:
Electronic Visit Verification (EVV): Providers must register at the California Provider Self-Registration Portal or receive confirmation of an exemption from their vendoring Regional Center.
HCBS Settings Final Rule: Providers must have an initial determination from their vendoring Regional Center that they meet the federal HCBS settings criteria. The rule emphasizes community integration, individual choice of setting, and personal independence.
Independent Audits/Reviews: Depending on the total payments received, providers may be required to conduct an independent audit or review.

Restricted Health Condition Care Plans - what is it, why do I need it, and how to obtain one for your client. Understanding what medical conditions are prohibited in your facility, and what conditions are restricted. What are the roles and responsibilities for Providers, Administrators, Licensed staff, and Direct Support Professionals. How to properly prepare a Restricted Health Condition Care Plan and get it approved. Although this is a provider training, some Regional Center Staff are enrolled at the recommendation of their supervisor due to the nature of their job.

The purpose of this training is to equip staff in various settings (day program, community integration, or residential facilities) with practical, trauma-informed, person-centered interventions to address risky behaviors among adults with co-occurring mental health and I/DD needs. This training will focus on assessing for risk, implementing proactive strategies, and responding effectively to challenging situations with the ultimate goal of promoting safety, autonomy, and independence.
